This page sets out the limits of what you should take from this site. It matters more here than on most finance sites, because the audience is people making decisions under financial pressure and some of the figures quoted change twice a year.

General information, not advice

Everything on this site is general information. It does not take into account your objectives, financial situation or needs, and it is not a recommendation that you take out any particular loan or take any particular action.

Before acting on anything here, consider whether it is appropriate for your circumstances and, where relevant, get advice from someone qualified to give it for your situation.

We do not advise on debt agreements

Nothing on this site is advice about entering into, varying, terminating or completing a Part IX debt agreement. We are not licensed to provide debt management services and we do not provide them.

The explanations of how debt agreements work are provided so that you understand the context you are borrowing in. Your own agreement, its terms and your obligations under it are matters for your registered debt agreement administrator.

If you want free, independent help with debt, the National Debt Helpline is on 1800 007 007.

AFSA figures change twice a year

This site quotes threshold amounts published by the Australian Financial Security Authority, including the $7,457 credit disclosure threshold under section 269 of the Bankruptcy Act 1966 and the eligibility limits for proposing a debt agreement.

Figures current at 17 August 2026. AFSA reindexes 20 March and 20 September. We review these figures against AFSA's published amounts, but if you are reading this after an indexation date, check the current figures directly at afsa.gov.au before relying on them.

Lender policies vary and change without notice

The occupation guides describe how lenders commonly treat different kinds of income, for example, that overtime is often assessed at 80%, or that some lenders apply an essential-services policy to shift allowances.

These are general patterns observed across a lender panel, not commitments. Individual lenders set their own policies, change them without notice, and apply them to your specific circumstances. No description in a guide should be read as a statement of what a particular lender will do for you.

No rates, and no approval promises

We do not publish interest rates, comparison rates or repayment examples on this site. In this segment the rate depends so heavily on the lender and the individual that an indicative figure would mislead more than it informs.

We make no promise of approval. Any loan is subject to the lender's credit criteria and to our responsible lending obligations, and a decline is a legitimate outcome.

Enquiring does not affect your credit file

Completing the enquiry form on this site does not run a credit check and does not create an entry on your credit file. A credit enquiry only occurs if you choose to proceed to a formal application with a specific lender, and you will know before that happens.

External sources

Where this site cites AFSA, ASIC or legislation, those sources are authoritative and we link to them. Our summaries are written for readability and are not a substitute for the source. Where they differ, the source governs.
